Katagelophobia is the fear of ridicule, being put down or embarrassed. The origin of the word kata is Greek (meaning put down), gelo is Greek (meaning laughing) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). Katagelophobia is considered to be a specific phobia, Katagelophobia – fear of ridicule, can be defined as an intense fear of something that does not actually pose a threat. This fear is generally accepted to be irrational, but irregardless it can be very troubling to face this phobia. Sometimes attempting to face it can cause panic or anxiety attacks.

What are the causes?
