Elurophobia is the fear of cats. The origin of the word euro is Greek meaning cat and phobia is Greek meaning fear. Elurophobia is considered to be a specifi phobia, Elurophobia is one shared by many people who are afraid of cats. Some people know exactly what experience caused the Elurophobia to start. it could have been a situation where a person was bitten, scratched or hissed at by a cat. This experience was perceived as traumatic to the individual and the person's unconscious attached singnifica anxiety to cats, seeing cats in any from including live, movies, television, and even hearing about cats.

What are the causes?

It is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events (i.e. traumatic events) and internal predispositions (i.e. heredity or genetics). Many specific phobias can be traced back to a specific triggering event, usually a traumatic experience at an early age. Social phobias and agoraphobia have more complex causes that are not entirely known at this time. It is believed that heredity, genetics, and brain chemistry combine with life-experiences to play a major role in the development of phobias.

Symptoms:-

The Elurophobic person ca experience anxiety, symptoms including sweating, nausea, idzzinss, heart irregularites, breathing difficulties and panic attacks when the phobia is triggered.

 

Treatment:-

Hypnotherapy is the treatment of choise. Some select psychothearpy which will assist the phobic person to face the cause, development and maintaining factors of the phobia while learning to mange anxiety in a healthier manner. Congnitive behavioral therapy can help a person develop coping strategies to deal with the pohobias

Cognitive behavioral treatments:-

Exposure treatment can provide lasting relief to the majority of patients with panic discorder and agoraphobia. Disappearance of residual and subclinical agoraphobic avoidance, and not simply of panic attacks, should be the aim of exposure therapy.

Cognitive restructuring has also proved useful in treating agoraphobia. This treatment involves coaching a participant through a diagnostic discussion, with the intent of substituting irrational, counterproductive beliefs with more factual and beneficial ones.
