Coulrophobia is the clinical name given for fear of clowns and can be defined as a persistent, abnormal irrational and exagerated fear of clowns. Although this phobia is a relatively recent concept, coulrophobia can cause severe anxiety and panic attacks and have a profound impact on a person’s quality of life. Coulrophobia is an abnormal or exaggerated fear of clowns. The condition also extends to the fear of hiding recognizable facial features with face paint. The word coulro is Greek for one who sits on stilts.

Known symptoms of Coulrophobia include excessive perspiration, trouble and erratic breathing nausea and queasiness, feeling a detachment from reality, weak and shaky limbs.
