Cometophobia is the fear of comets. The origin of the word comet is Greek meaning hairy star and phobia is Greek meaning fear cometophobia is considered to be a specific phobia.The fear of Comets is known as cometophobia people who suffer from this phobia will exhibit symptoms of anxiety and even physical illness, when they ses a comet in the night sky. Gthey sterak through them sky, illuminated and glowing against a dark sky. Comets carry a tail or atmosphere that gives them their distinctive, streaked appearance. for some the sight of a comet may provoke thought of disaster or doom.
Overdoses of adrenaline can cause irritability and agitation, while too much noradrenaline can leave a person feeling disconnected and high. If arousal continues, the adrenal glands create anti inflammatory chemicals to speed tissue repair but cortisol will also suppress the immune syste, leaving it vulnerable to illness and disease. Extra sodium is retained, endangering the performance of the cardiovascular system by causing fluid retention, raising the heart rate, increasing blood pressure and possibly inducing blood clots.
What are the causes?
It is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events (i.e. traumatic events) and internal predispositions (i.e. heredity or genetics). Many specific phobias can be traced back to a specific triggering event, usually a traumatic experience at an early age. Social phobias and agoraphobia have more complex causes that are not entirely known at this time. It is believed that heredity, genetics, and brain chemistry combine with life-experiences to play a major role in the development of phobias.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Cometphobia are the same of the symptoms of most phobias. Being around comets, or images of comets, will provoke nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, and headaches. Sometimes, a bad memory or repressed childhood experience can subconsciously affect the way a person reacts to triggers
