Anthophobia is the fear of flowers. The origin of the word antho is Greek meaning flower and phobia is Greek meaning fear. Anthophobia is considered to be a specific phobia. Anthophobia is an intense fear of flowers that poses little or no actual danger. While adults with anthophobia realize that these fears are irrational, they other find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety.
Fear of flowers or flower fear is defined as an abnormal and persistent fear of flowers. People suffering from flower fear experience undue anxiety even though they realize they face no threat from flower. There is no specific flower which causes this fear, any genus or species of flowers can instill fear.
Anthorphobia is another one of the phobias that is hard to understand. Those who suffer with this phobia experience anxiety from any type of flower even though they realize that the fear is irrational tan that there is no threat.
Symptoms:-
Typical symptoms of flower fear include breathlessness, dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, heart palpitaions, and inability to speak or think clearly
Treatment: -
Cognitive behavioral therapy:
This is one of the most rational therapies for treating anthrophobia phobia. This therapy makes the patient realize and understand the fears and the reasons behind those in a more rational and systematic way. In this therapy the patient is taught to think clearly. Though a slow process, this therapy is effective in treating anthrophobia.
Energy psychology:
This therapy includes acupressure, yoga, tai chi, prana, qi gong and other techniques, which increases the energy and teaches people to keep their mind calm and composed. There are controversies regarding the effectiveness and success of this therapy but since it involves no drugs, it has no side effects and is opted by many as a treatment of phobia.
